A 1:350 wooden deck for the heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis is an adhesive veneer piece with pre-printed plank laying that is glued straight onto the plastic deck of the kit. It is intended for the Academy 14107 kit.

This is not a kit but an aftermarket accessory. The thin wood veneer is cut to the shape of the deck surfaces of one specific kit, has an adhesive layer on the back and the laying of the individual planks pre-printed on the face. Once glued on it replaces the plastic deck with its engraved decoration and gives the model a material look that is hard to achieve by painting plastic alone.
The set is cut for the Academy 14107 kit. Deck shapes differ between manufacturers and between releases of the same cruiser and the pieces are not interchangeable, so check in advance that you are building that version of the model. Note too that there is often more than one deck variant for one model, with a different shade of wood or a different dated state of the ship: decide by the whole name of the item, not just by the name of the ship.
Preparing the plastic is the basis of success. First clear the deck of flash and the remains of the parting line, sand it smooth and degrease it carefully; grease from your fingers is the most common reason why a veneer lifts at the corners after a few weeks. Take the protective film off the adhesive layer in sections, never all at once. Lay the piece on dry first, check its position against the superstructure, the hatches and the breakwater, and only then press from the center out to the edges so that no bubbles form under the veneer. Trim overhangs with a new, really sharp blade: a blunt knife tears the wood and frays the edges of the planks.
The accessory is supplied separately. The plastic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
