Responsibility details are not available.
Literature from the Fast Guide series, which Komakai publishes. The subject is the sharpest form of the Audi quattro, which the name gives as the Quattro Sport S1, that is the car built for the wildest era of the world rally championship.
Audi entered rallying with an idea that its rivals at first took lightly: driving all four wheels. Within a few seasons it turned out to be a fundamental turning point, and everyone else had to follow. The Sport S1 was the culmination of that path. The wheelbase was shortened considerably so the car would turn in better, the body gained massive wings and intake openings, and the force-fed five-cylinder gave off a sound by which spectators recognized it before it appeared around the corner. The car made its mark on gravel and on asphalt and also became a legend of hillclimbing, where its drivetrain came fully into its own. Group B ended prematurely, but it is this machine that stayed in the memory most strongly of all. As a subject it is rewarding on top of that, because its shapes are unmistakable and the color schemes of the individual seasons differ markedly from one another.
Modelers of rally machines, collectors of literature on Group B and admirers of the engineering that permanently changed the shape of competition cars.
