Number Five BT46 Red

A modeling paint from the Spanish brand Number Five in a bottle of 30 milliliters. The red shade is named after the Brabham BT46 Formula car of the end of the 1970s, on whose finish red was one of the two main tones. The paint is supplied at a consistency ready for spraying with an airbrush, so there is no hunting for the right thinning ratio.

How to work with the paint

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use
• The paint is ready for spraying and further thinning is usually not needed
• It should be thinned and cleaned up exclusively with the thinner and cleaner of the same brand
• Apply it in several thin coats, not in one heavy one
• A light primer pays off under red; on a dark ground it goes darker

What to watch out for

A saturated red belongs, along with white and yellow, to the shades that cover worst and depend most on the ground. On a gray primer it comes out darker and muddier than on white, which matters on a racing car with an exactly defined color. So sand the surface carefully, use a light primer and count on several coats. Do not mix the paint with products of other brands until you have tried their compatibility on an offcut.
