The color

This silver from the Number 5 line is named after the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The line offers shades kept by individual cars, so a builder does not have to look for a tone by mixing. The paint is intended for the bodies of car models.

A light shade gives the ground away

Light silver tones show the state of the surface beneath them without mercy: a groove from a file, a coarsely sanded joint and even a fingerprint. Smooth the surface with a fine sanding sponge before painting, then wash and degrease it. Stir the paint thoroughly, because the pigment settles to the bottom and an unstirred bottle will give two different tones on one surface. Apply thin coats and let them dry, and then it is better not to touch the dried surfaces with your fingers, as grease stays visible on a light finish.

Painting tips

• Fill and sand the joints of the body before you apply the shade.
• An even ground helps the surface hold the same tone everywhere.
• Build the paint up in thin coats, as a heavy coat fills the fine molded detail.
• Mask only on a fully cured surface and pull the tape away slowly.
• Try the procedure on an offcut before a top varnish, as light shades react sensitively to it.

The paint is supplied as described. The model, a primer, thinner, a top varnish and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. For thinning, cleaning tools and drying time, go by the manufacturer's details on the packaging. Work in a ventilated room and store the bottle carefully closed out of the reach of children.
