The silver 300SL Silver is taken from the German national racing color in which the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL coupe with doors hinged into the roof appeared.

The shade 300SL Silver is tied to one of the most famous sports cars of the 1950s. On this subject silver was not merely a fashionable choice but a reference to the German national racing color.
The 300 SL coupe was built from 1954 and you recognize it at once by its upward-opening doors. That was not a styling idea: the car stands on a tubular frame with high sills that conventional doors cannot clear. The engine was an inline six with direct fuel injection, at the time an absolute exception on a production car. Its predecessor was a racing type that collected successes in long-distance events in the early 1950s. From 1957 an open version with conventional doors was sold. A silver body brings out the shape of the flanks and the curved roof, but at the same time it gives away every irregularity in the surface.
It suits collectors of classic sports cars who are after a period-correct rendering rather than any metallic silver at all. This body in particular also tends to be displayed without decals, so the paint alone carries the whole impression of the model.
