RG500 Red is the red associated with the Suzuki RG500, the two-stroke square four that set the tone in the half-liter class in the 1970s.

The name of the shade refers to the Suzuki RG500, a racing motorcycle with a two-stroke engine arranged as a square. The machine appeared in 1974 and for several seasons became the measure in the strongest class of the road racing world championships.
Four cylinders in two rows one above the other made it possible to keep the engine short and narrow, which showed in the agility of the whole motorcycle and in its frontal area. The two-stroke power gave the machine a sharp rise in output in a narrow band of revs, so riding it was a discipline for a handful of riders. Barry Sheene took the half-liter class title with this machine twice in a row, in 1976 and 1977, and made it the most closely watched motorcycle in the field at the time. The designation later passed to the road-going RG500 Gamma with an aluminum frame, which the Japanese brand offered in the second half of the 1980s. Red is one of the tones both forms of the machine appeared in.
It will be appreciated by builders of motorcycle models who are working out the tone of red on bodywork and do not want to reach for a color cut for a car. Half-liter two-strokes have a steady following among modelers and fidelity of color is a watched topic with them. The bodywork is moreover the only truly large part of a whole build, so any shift of tone shows on it at once. The real subject is a machine with narrow bodywork and a high-set tail, so the colored area on a model is not large but is visible from every side.
