Chardonnet Dark Blue is the dark blue of the private French Chardonnet stable, which entered Lancia rally cars.
Responsibility details are not available.
The dark half of the two-color blue combination worn by the rally cars of the private French Chardonnet team. The Number Five brand carries its lighter counterpart in the same palette as well, so it is evident that the shade is not intended as a body color on its own but as a part of a particular color scheme.
Behind the team stood André Chardonnet, the French importer of Lancia cars, who built a competition operation of his own and managed to beat even works entries with it. Its best known chapter is the Lancia Stratos cars in the blue form, with which Bernard Darniche won the Tour de Corse in 1979 and 1981 and in 1979 the Monte Carlo Rally as well. The team later moved to the Lancia 037 type, which carried a blue and white coloring in the same spirit. It is exactly the joining of the dark and the light blue that makes these cars instantly recognizable.
It aims at builders of rally models who are after a particular historic livery and do not want to replace it with a general dark blue. Kits of these cars in the matching coloring are issued repeatedly, and so are the decals for them.
