Traffic Red RAL3020

Number Five Traffic Red RAL3020

A modeling paint from the Spanish brand Number Five in a bottle of 30 milliliters. The shade corresponds to traffic red under the European RAL standard, number 3020, that is, a saturated signal red with neither an orange nor a blue cast. The paint is supplied at a consistency ready for spraying with an airbrush.

Where the color is used

Traffic red is the color of fire and rescue vehicles, of warning features and of industrial machinery, but it also appears on utility and racing cars. It is one of the shades that have their own number in a standard, so it can be compared with reality reliably. That comes in handy precisely with red, because the difference between two close reds is surprisingly conspicuous on a model.

How to work with the paint

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles to the bottom
• The paint is supplied at a consistency ready for spraying and further thinning is usually not needed
• It should be thinned and cleaned up exclusively with the thinner and cleaner of the same brand
• Apply it in several thin coats and let them flash off
• Put a light primer under red; on a dark ground it darkens and goes muddy

Who the paint is for

• Builders of car and motorcycle models
• Modelers who want an exact shade without mixing
• Anyone who paints with an airbrush and does not want to hunt for a thinning ratio

Safety note

Work in a well-ventilated space and use a respirator when spraying, as an aerosol forms. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition, close the bottle carefully after use and avoid contact with eyes and skin.
