A Number 5 modeling paint in a dark gray shade under the designation Gun Metal, suited to the parts of a model that are meant to look metallic.
Responsibility details are not available.
Gun Metal is an established naming for a dark gray with a cold tone, that is for the color that polished gun steel has. On a model it suits everywhere a pure black would come across as too hard and an ordinary gray as dead: on barrels and weapons, exhausts, engine parts, fasteners, rims and frames. The shade comes mixed, so you do not have to work your way to it by mixing black with gray.
Stir the contents of the container properly before work, as with dark grays settled pigment is most visible in the result. It can be applied with a brush as well as an airbrush, and the thinner and the ratio of thinning are given by the maker's instructions. Work in two or three thin layers and let the surface flash off between them. Small parts are more convenient to paint while still on a holder or stuck on a wooden stick, before they get onto a model.
A dark gray takes dry brushing with a lighter shade well, with which you emphasize the edges and suggest wear. On exhausts and barrels it looks natural when you go over the coat with a faint breath of rust or soot. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, as grease from the fingers shows as a stain beneath a dark coat. Close the container between withdrawals and wipe the rim, otherwise the lid will dry shut.
For builders of military vehicles, aircraft and automobiles who need a ready shade for metal parts. Thinner, brushes, varnish and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
