About product

The real subject

The AV-8B Harrier II is an American attack aircraft capable of vertical and short takeoff. Its thrust is vectored by rotating nozzles on the sides of the fuselage, so the machine can take off from a short site or from the deck of a smaller ship. The cockpit sits high and is covered by a bubble canopy with a good view downward, which means that more of it is visible on a finished model than on other types. The set is aimed at the late form of the aircraft.

What the set contains

Colored three-dimensional cockpit interior elements in 1:72 scale, made by 3D printing and printed on backing decal paper. They have a raised relief as well as finished color printing, so the instrument panel, the side panels and the seat belts gain a depth that is hard to reach with a brush in this scale. The elements are shaped for the AV-8B kit from Hasegawa; check that your kit matches the late form before buying.

How the elements are applied

The elements of the QD series are transferred by the wet method. The decal paper serves only as a backing: cut the part out, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it into place. The elements have no adhesive layer of their own and hold on gloss varnish of the Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 type; on intricate spots a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin.

  • Paint the surfaces beforehand and let them dry perfectly.
  • Degrease the base and go over it with gloss varnish, otherwise the element will not hold.
  • Slide the soaked part off the paper and settle it starting from one edge.
  • Draw the surplus water off with a soft cotton swab, not with a fingernail.

Who it is for

The set suits a modeler building a Harrier with the canopy slid back who wants the cockpit finished quickly and in a consistent color scheme. The package contains only the elements on the sheet; the kit, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. The decal paper is only a backing: the element is dipped in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid onto a surface with gloss varnish. Do not use a decal softener.

It is shaped for the AV-8B model from Hasegawa in 1:72 scale, and specifically for the late form.

While there is still access to the cockpit, that is before the fuselage is joined. Paint the surfaces first, go over them with gloss varnish, let them dry and degrease them.

The range of elements is prepared for the late form. On another version some of the elements may not fit, so compare them against the manufacturer's instructions.
