A single-sided Art Scale masking set in 1:32 scale is cut for the F-86K Sabre Dog and serves to cover the glazing and other areas during painting. Meant for the Kitty Hawk kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a model of the aircraft but an aid for painting. The set holds pre-shaped masking parts matching the glazing frames of the Kitty Hawk kit. The single-sided version covers the glazing from one side, that is from the outside, where the top coat is sprayed.
Cutting tape by hand for a curved canopy is among the most time-consuming jobs on a model, and an inaccurate edge is immediately visible on the finished piece. Shaped parts shorten that step and, above all, keep the frame the same width along its whole length, which is what catches the eye most in the large 1:32 scale.
The North American F-86K was the export version of the all-weather interceptor of the F-86D series. Instead of a retractable rocket tray it was given gun armament, and it was supplied to allies in Europe, where it was used by Italy, France, the Netherlands and Norway among others. Part of the production took place in Italy at Fiat. The nickname Sabre Dog caught on for the whole of this interceptor branch of the Sabre family.
Clear the areas of dust and grease before fitting the parts. Once they are on, press the edges down gently with a blunt stick so that the paint does not creep under the edge. Apply thin coats; a heavy coat forms a step. Lift the parts off while the paint is freshly dry, not after a longer time, when the coat has hardened.
