Stencils for spraying the camouflage onto a Bf 109G-6 model in 1:48 scale, prepared for the Eduard kit. The mottled pattern comes out without improvising by hand.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bf 109G-6 is the most numerously built version of the German Messerschmitt fighter, and you recognize it easily by the bulges over the fuselage gun breeches. It was used by day and by night, among other things in night fighting under the name Wilde Sau, when single-engined machines without a radar of their own attacked over a target lit by searchlights and fires. It was the night machines in particular that carried the complex mottled schemes meant to break up the outline of the fuselage.
Stencils for spraying the camouflage pattern onto a model in 1:48 scale. The shape and the placement follow the Eduard kit, so the stencils sit on its parts without any measuring. Mottled camouflage is among the hardest things to spray freehand on a model; with a stencil you get a repeatable pattern of the same size across the whole area.
The surface of the model has to be smooth, clean and degreased before masking, or the paint will creep under the edge. Spray at right angles and in thin coats, and thin the paint more than usual beforehand. Holding the stencil tight against the surface gives a sharp edge to the mottle, while lifting it very slightly gives a soft transition that matches period photographs better. Lift the stencils while the coat is fresh.
For modelers who build German fighters in 1:48 scale and want a complex scheme to come out even. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
