This item is a masking set from the Art Scale brand for a model of the four-engined Consolidated B-24J Liberator in 1:48 scale, and the name places it among the double-sided versions. The manufacturer makes the single-sided version of the same machine separately, so the two are chosen by that detail. The set is an aid for painting: it holds no plastic, glue or paints and assumes that you already have the model.
The Consolidated B-24 differed from its contemporary the B-17 in having greater range and a larger bomb load, for which it paid with more demanding flying in formation. The high-set narrow wing gave the machine its endurance but took away from its stability when damaged. The J version brought the earlier partial changes together into a single production standard and became the most numerous variant of the whole line. Liberators flew over Europe, the Mediterranean and the Pacific, and in British colors they patrolled over the ocean.
Work in sections: the cockpit and the front first, then the side windows and the tail. The smaller windows are easier to place with blunt-jawed tweezers, so that the edge of the masking does not ripple. Before lifting them, let the last coat only flash off, and if the paint is on the thick side, score the edge lightly in advance with a new blade; that saves you a torn patch on the glazing.
