1:400 ORP Metalowiec is a kit of a Polish Tarantul class missile corvette in 1:400 scale from the manufacturer Mirage Hobby.
Responsibility details are not available.
The model depicts a missile corvette of the Polish Navy. The 1:400 scale is practical for small warships: the finished model stays a reasonable size but keeps a legible silhouette of the superstructure, the mast and the deck armament. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted; check the exact make-up of the package with the manufacturer.
The class to which the ship belongs came about as a fast missile unit for coastal waters. Characteristic of it are a low, wedge-shaped silhouette, a compact superstructure with the bridge set forward and the launch canisters of anti-ship missiles along the sides. The supplementary armament consists of a gun turret on the bow and rapid-fire close-in defense systems aft. The Polish Navy operated several of these units and counted them among the main striking element of its coastal defense.
First decide whether you will build the model with the full hull on a stand or in a waterline version set into a model of the sea. Paint the hull and the decks separately before you join them; the boundary between the side and the deck is then easier to do. Glue the small parts, above all the missile canisters and the mast, with a small amount of cyanoacrylate glue, so that the detail is not flooded. Railings, ladders and radar antennas can be added with a photo-etched set or with fine wire, and the model gains markedly by it. Apply the paint in thin coats; a light modulation and a weak wash into the recesses suit a gray hull. Keep rust streaks restrained in a small scale, or they look unconvincing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
