A model of the light Czechoslovak helicopter Aero HC-102 Heli Baby in 1:48 scale. A small machine of the 1950s that is rarely seen.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Heli Baby is among the first Czechoslovak helicopters to get beyond the prototype stage. It was created as a small machine for two on board, that is, for training, liaison and light transport, where a larger and more expensive type would make no sense. The HC-102 rendition followed on from the older HC-2 and is its refined form. The aircraft shows nicely how early helicopters were built: a cockpit set forward with a large glazed area, a low structure beneath it and a boom running back with a tail rotor that holds the machine against the torque of the main rotor.
The subject is rewarding precisely for its size. In 1:48 scale it produces a small model that fits into a display case beside aircraft already built, and among helicopters it tends to be the one a visitor asks about. For collectors of home-grown hardware it is one of the types that is usually missing from the shelf.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so that the edges stay straight. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint will hold badly on the smooth surface. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts. On a helicopter watch two places: the rotor blades are thin and twist easily, so glue them on at the end, and mask the cockpit glazing before spraying, because scraping paint back off glazing never turns out well.
For modelers with an interest in Czechoslovak aviation hardware and in early helicopters. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
