The TA-6 was built at the repair works in Tartu in the Estonian Soviet republic from the mid-1950s until roughly the end of that decade. Like most small Soviet buses of the time it came about on a truck chassis, specifically the GAZ-51 with a lengthened frame - hence the high floor and the steps up into the vehicle. The full-width body looked modern, though, and gave the vehicle a face of its own. The bus ran mainly on local routes in the Baltic and appeared outside that area only rarely, so it is a subject that most collections do not have. Very few examples survive today.
Put the parts together dry first and check how the body seats on the frame, and only then join them with an adhesive suitable for the material they are made of. The large glazed areas call for careful work: mask the windows before spraying and lay the paint on with an airbrush in thin coats over a primer. A two-tone finish of the kind the buses of the time had looks best with a sharp dividing line made with masking tape. A fine wash into the engraving will bring out the frames of the windows and the door, and restrained dust on the wheel arches will give the vehicle a serviceable look.
