ZIL-130V1 with the APPA-4 trailer is a kit of a Soviet airport rig in 1:43 scale from the maker AVD Models. The semi-tractor is paired with a low-floor trailer that carried passengers across the airport apron.

The kit captures the whole rig: the ZIL-130V1 semi-tractor and the APPA-4 trailer. 1:43 is the classic car scale, so the finished combination fits a cabinet among collector metal models of cars and trucks. Thanks to the length of the rig it is a striking piece that draws the eye on a shelf at once.
The ZIL-130 from the Moscow Likhachev plant was among the most widespread Soviet trucks. The version with V1 in the designation is a semi-tractor meant for pulling trailers, so a vehicle with a shorter frame and a fifth wheel in place of a flatbed body. The APPA-4 trailer came about in 1971 at the Riga civil aviation plant and from 1973 was used precisely in combination with the two-axle ZIL-130V1 tractor. It carried passengers between the terminal building and the aircraft, for which it had a low floor and side doors along the body. This is therefore typical airport ground equipment, not a road bus.
The rig builds well in units: the chassis and cab of the tractor separately, the body of the trailer separately. Try fitting the parts dry first and only then glue them, because on a rig it matters that the fifth wheel of the tractor and the kingpin of the trailer line up and that the model stands level on all its wheels. Choose the glue according to the material of the particular part. Degrease the parts before painting and use a primer, so that the large smooth surfaces of the body do not pick out every irregularity. Airport equipment used to be strikingly colorful, so it pays to spray with an airbrush in thin coats and to mask the dividing lines between colors with particular care. Finish the glazing and the trim strips with a brush at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
