The real subject

The B-1B Lancer is an American strategic bomber with a variable-geometry wing. It carries four engines in pairs under the wing root, so the exhaust nozzles form two prominent groups at the rear. On a model this is the place the eye converges on: the nozzles are dark, deep and different from the smooth area of the fuselage, so a shallow imitation of the opening shows on them at once.

What the set contains

Engine exhaust nozzles for the model of the B-1B in 1:144 scale, rendered in the early form and in the closed position. The parts are resin and replace the corresponding parts of the kit. Before gluing, compare the shape of the nozzles with photographs of the aircraft from the period you are building, because the appearance of the rear end changed over time.

Building and painting tips

Work over a tray or over a piece of cloth; parts in this scale are small and a dropped piece is hard to find. Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the area smooth, so that the part seats without a gap. Resin is not polystyrene and cement for plastic has no effect on it, so use super glue and apply it with the tip of a toothpick, not straight from the bottle. Wash and degrease before painting. Spray the inside of the nozzle dark before you seat the parts, otherwise a brush will not reach into the depth. Grade the metal shades and keep the transition to the color of the fuselage soft, so that it does not read as coarse on a small model.
