A set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard from the LööK range, intended for the cockpit of the Douglas A-1J Skyraider attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. LööK is the range that joins a 3D printed instrument panel with pre-painted steel belts: both parts arrive already painted and are meant as a direct replacement for the original parts of the kit. Compared with ordinary photo-etched metal the panel has real volume, so the instrument bezels and the controls stand up above the surface.
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was a single-engined piston attack aircraft of American production, designed as far back as the end of the Second World War and used long into the era of jet machines. The A-1J version belongs to the late batches of the single-seat form. The aircraft was marked out by the great load capacity of its pylons and by long endurance over the target area. The cockpit is roomy and clearly visible under the large canopy, which is the main reason why detailed fitting out of the interior pays off on this type.
The whole point of the range is that painting falls away. The instrument panel arrives with the dials, the labels and the colored controls finished, and any spraying will ruin it; the same holds for the belts, which have the straps and the fittings printed on. The belts are therefore only shaped, not painted: bend them over a stick or a round tool, so that they hang into the seat, and let them fall loosely over the edge. The work is concentrated in two places. First on the shade of the cockpit tub, which is to follow on from the color of the panel. Second on the final varnish, with which the sheen is evened out, while the glossy surface of the dials is on the contrary worth keeping.
It is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
