MASTER 1:48 A-4 Skyhawk, Colt Mk12 20 mm cannon barrels are turned metal replacements with a real bore instead of solid plastic parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
Turned metal barrels of the Colt Mk12 20 mm cannons for models of the light carrier attack aircraft A-4 Skyhawk in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but a small accessory that replaces the plastic cannon muzzles in the leading edge of the wing root on a finished model.
The Skyhawk's cannons are built into both sides of the fuselage and only a short piece of the muzzle shows on a model. That is exactly what makes the plastic version thankless: the part is solid, the muzzle has to be drilled with a micro drill and it is easy to run off the axis while drilling. Turned metal comes with the bore already made, it has a thin and accurate muzzle wall, and a pair of cannons keeps the same length and the same angle of protrusion, which is obvious at a glance on a finished model.
Cut the plastic muzzle off with a sharp scalpel and open the hole in the wing out with a drill to the diameter of the shank of the metal part, working in several steps so that the plastic does not crack. Slide the part in dry, check that both sides are in line and only then secure it with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue, ideally a thin one that wicks in. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol and lay down a primer intended for metal. The barrels themselves are often left in a metal shade, darkened only with a blackening agent or gun blue, and the muzzle is then brought out with a dark wash. When cleaning a finished model, do not press on the barrels, as they are thin.
This is an accessory to a kit, not a complete model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
