Masks for the national insignia of the A6M2-N Rufe in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. Instead of decals, the insignia are sprayed in paint through pre-cut masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for spraying the national insignia on a model of the Japanese floatplane fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a decal sheet and not a kit: the masks are stuck onto an airframe that is already painted, the color of the insignia is sprayed over them and once dry they are taken off. Eduard is a Czech manufacturer based in Obrnice near Most.
A decal is always a thin layer of carrier film laid on the surface. Even with a gloss base, a decal softener and a matte overcoat, in flat light the edge of the film tends to show, and on engraved lines a decal can silver. A sprayed insignia has no film: it is paint lying directly in the finish, so the surface stays of one piece and takes weathering or chipped paint. On top of that you choose the shade yourself, so the insignia matches the colors you sprayed the camouflage with.
Spray the insignia onto dry camouflage, ideally onto a smooth and slightly glossy surface so that the mask beds down well. Apply the paint in several very thin coats: a heavy coat builds a ridge at the edge that will show once the mask comes off. On a multicolored insignia work from the lighter color to the darker one and let each coat become tacky in between. Take the masks off shortly after the paint dries, not several days later.
