An injection-molded plastic model of the Japanese carrier fighter Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero Type 21 in 1:48 scale from the Czech brand Eduard. It is a premium edition that adds color photo-etched parts and self-adhesive masks for the glazing and the wheels to the plastic parts; the decal sheet offers several color schemes. The kit uses a modern mold with fine engraved surface detail and a well worked-up cockpit.
The A6M2 Zero Type 21 was one of the best known carrier fighters of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The Type 21 version had folding wingtips for stowage aboard aircraft carriers and was famous for its exceptional agility and long range. It was powered by a radial engine, and in the first months of the war in the Pacific, including the attack on Pearl Harbor, it was among the most feared fighters. The price paid for that agility was a light structure without armor for the pilot and without self-sealing tanks.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Glue the color photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and mask the glazing with the masks supplied. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush in thin coats. With Japanese naval colors, take care over the correct shade according to the paint manufacturer; wear and flaking paint can be suggested with the chipping technique.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
