1:48 A.H.1939-1945

What the item is

This is a figure item in 1:48 scale, of the figure kind. The dates in the name, that is, the years 1939 to 1945, mark out the period of the Second World War. The particular subject, the number of pieces and the extent of the package are specified by the manufacturer's description and illustration; the name itself is so abbreviated that it says nothing closer about the contents.

Scale and use

1:48 scale is small for figures: an adult figure a hundred and eighty centimeters tall measures barely four centimeters on a model. A figure in this scale is used beside models of aircraft and equipment in the same scale, where it gives the whole a human scale and sets an otherwise static scene in motion, and it suits a small display-case base beside a finished model as well.

Painting tips

Small figures are better painted before being settled into a scene, and best mounted on a stick or on a cork. Before painting, wash the part, degrease it and apply a thin primer, or the covering coat will not stay on the smooth surface. Work in thin coats; the final impression is made by a light dark wash into the folds of the clothing and careful lightening of the raised places by drybrushing. In this scale there is no sense in painting the eyes; for the face a basic flesh shade, a wash and fine lightening are enough. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts, which the manufacturer's description gives.

Who it is for

The item is for modelers who complete a model or a small scene in 1:48 scale with a figure element. The model, a base, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
