The British ASRAAM guided missile as four scale replicas for models of present-day combat aircraft in 1:48 scale. The number of pieces is given by the name of the item. The aircraft kit itself has to be obtained separately.
The missile came about as a European answer to the aging weapons of the previous generation and has served with the Royal Air Force since the start of the century. Its designers chose an unusual path: instead of large moving surfaces it received a thick body filled with an exceptionally powerful motor and only small control fins at the rear. The result is a weapon that will not beat an opponent in a tight turn but simply runs him down: it accelerates steeply and holds a high speed even at long range. It aims with an imaging infrared seeker, so it recognizes the target by the shape of its heat signature, and it can also be cued by the line of sight of the pilot through a helmet-mounted sight.
For modelers of present-day European fighter aircraft who want true underwing stores. Paints, varnishes and glue are not in the delivery.
