A resin AN/ALQ-99 High Band pod in 1:48 from Eduard - a finely rendered jamming pod for models of electronic warfare aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not an aircraft kit but a resin accessory in 1:48 scale. It is a model of an external pod of the AN/ALQ-99 system in the version for the higher frequency band. A resin casting allows sharper edges and finer surface detail than an injection mold can manage, so the pod looks markedly better on a model than the part from the base kit. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard.
The AN/ALQ-99 is an American tactical jamming system carried in external pods under the fuselage and wings of electronic warfare aircraft. The individual pods differ in the frequency band they work in, and several of them are commonly hung on an aircraft at once. A characteristic feature is the small propeller at the front, which drives a generator powering the electronics inside.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent to rid them of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a craft knife rather than snapping them - resin cracks unpredictably. Protect your airways when sanding and sand wet, as the dust is fine and irritating. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, and with the gel type on larger parts for more time to adjust them. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly on smooth resin. Always test fit the racks dry so that the pod sits in line with the aircraft.
This is an accessory, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check compatibility with your kit before buying.
