This type of decal forgives little, and almost all the trouble arises before it is even applied. Cut the cockpit parts off the frame with a margin and sand the sprue nub remnants away flush — a raised spot you can barely see under the paint shows up under the decal as a light stripe. Degrease the surfaces, rid them of the dust from sanding and only then spray the base shade. Let the paint cure properly; a fresh coat behaves unpredictably under water. Next comes a thin layer of gloss clear coat, which seals the base and decides whether the edges of the decal blend in or go white.
Work element by element and fine-tune the position with a damp brush while the decal still slides. Blot the excess water with a cotton swab laid against it from the side, not by pressing from above. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer; the manufacturer forbids them on these sets. Once dry, unify the interior with a matte or semi-gloss varnish.
