1:48 B-17 F/G, landing gear bay plugs

Shaped landing gear bay plugs for a model of the four-engine Boeing B-17 F and G bomber in 1:48 scale from Omask, cut for the HK Models kit. It is not a model, nor a part that would stay on the aircraft; it is a painting aid. The plug is inserted into the open landing gear bay before spraying and keeps paint from the airbrush out. Once the coat is finished it is taken out and the bay stays clean.

Use

• Insert the plug into the bay before the primer
• Check that it fits all the way around and that no gap is left anywhere
• Spray in the usual way, the plug is held in place by its shape
• Take it out once the coat has dried, not sooner
• After it is out, the bay can be painted separately and without masking

Why it pays off

The landing gear bays of a four-engine bomber are deep and complex, so they can hardly be closed off reliably with a paper or tape mask. An overspray inside a bay is also harder to repair than anything else on the model, because a brush will not easily reach in. A shaped plug solves both at once and at the same time protects the interior detail you have already painted.

Who the set is for

For modelers who build the B-17 in the F or G version in 1:48 scale and want the bays kept apart from the exterior coat. The set is cut to the shape of the bays of the HK Models kit, so it cannot be used on another type of aircraft. The number of pieces in the package and the dimensions of the plugs are stated on the box.
