The wheel wells for the Boeing B-17 in 1:48 scale are a resin detailing accessory from the Mettalic Details brand. They replace the simplified plastic gear bays and on their own do not make a model of the aircraft.

This is a detailing accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. The resin set replaces the main landing gear bays in a model of the Boeing B-17 bomber in 1:48 scale. On large injection-molded kits the gear bays tend to be solved as bare recesses without structure; a resin casting brings into them the spars, the pipe and electrical runs and the inner skinning, which on a model with the gear down are permanently in view. The accessory is intended for a base kit you already own.
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is an American four-engine bomber of the Second World War period, powered by Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engines. The main landing gear retracted into the nacelles of the inboard engines, and in the retracted position part of the wheel stayed outside the outline of the nacelle. The gear bays therefore stay easily visible on a parked aircraft and are among the places where the level of detail tells most on the finished model.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the residue of the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter, do not break them off. For gluing, use cyanoacrylate superglue or two-part epoxy; cement for plastic will not join resin. Do any sanding wet and with your airways protected. Paint the bays and bring them out before the nacelles are closed up – once assembled, the inside is out of reach. Bring out the recesses and the corners with a fine dark shade, and the edges of the reinforcements with a dry brush instead.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
