The set contains a turned brass pitot tube for BAC Lightning models in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but a replacement part for a model you already have.
A pitot tube is an airspeed sensor, a thin tube projecting into the free airstream from which the speed of the aircraft is derived. That is exactly why it is slender and precise on the real machine. On a model, however, an injection mold cannot make it slender: the part needs draft and a certain minimum thickness, so it comes out coarse, often slightly bent and extremely liable to snap off, because it sticks out from the model. A turned brass part, by contrast, is thin, perfectly straight and strong: it will not break when you pick the model up, and in a finished display case it reads as metal rather than as a plastic needle. It is one of the simplest upgrades with the most visible effect.
The English Electric / BAC Lightning was a British Cold War interceptor with an entirely unique layout: its two jet engines were not side by side but one above the other, staggered in the fuselage. That gave it enormous thrust with a relatively slim fuselage and made it famous for its exceptional rate of climb; it could climb practically vertically and could reach in a few minutes the altitudes at which it was to catch incoming bombers. It was the typical point defense fighter: extremely fast off the ground and in the climb, at the cost of short range.
