Beer Spitfire Mk.IX 1:48 is a resin and photo-etch conversion set that fits the beer barrels carried under the wings to a Spitfire model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A popular conversion accessory for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX fighter. The set contains a pair of resin beer barrels, the pylons and an auxiliary fuel tank for under the fuselage, supplemented with photo-etched sheet carrying the barrel straps and brackets and with a set of decals. It is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right.
After the Normandy landings, Spitfires Mk.IX carried improvised beer barrels on their pylons instead of bombs and flew fresh beer to the units on the continent. This period curiosity has become a rewarding modeling scene, which the set renders faithfully in scale.
Wash the resin parts free of the mold release agent and cut off the casting blocks, and bend the photo-etched straps over an edge. Glue everything with cyanoacrylate glue. Set the barrels apart in color, bring out the metal hoops and apply the decals over a smooth gloss surface, which you finally unify with a matte varnish.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. The base model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package.
