Sharp outlines with no carrier membrane are what the set 1:48 Bf 109 F masks for crosses brings, cut for a model of the Messerschmitt of the F line.

Sharp outlines of the crosses with no carrier membrane, that is the main contribution of masking templates for a 1:48 model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 of the F line. The paint settles directly onto the camouflage and the marking behaves the same as the rest of the surface at every further step of finishing. Working with templates is slower, but the result withstands even demanding finishing.
The F line counts as the cleanest shape the 109 ever took. Its designers gave it rounded wing tips, a cantilever horizontal tail surface without struts and a retractable tailwheel; the armament concentrated in the axis of the machine, that is into the engine-mounted cannon and the synchronized guns above it. The simplification led to better flying qualities, but among pilots it raised a dispute over whether firepower against bombers had not been made worse by it. The type appeared on every front in 1941 and became the pattern from which the later forms of the machine proceeded.
Cleanliness is decisive. Before you lay the template on, rid the surface of grease from your fingers, of dust and of residues of abrasive; even a small piece of dirt under the edge will cause the paint to creep under. It pays to work in gloves and to go over the surface with a soft cloth before laying the template on. It is also worth checking whether a more matte overspray has been left on the base, on which the film will not seat along the whole length of the edge.
