This set from the aircraft aftermarket manufacturer Aires/Quickboost is a resin replacement for the cockpit rear bulkhead, the partition behind the pilot, for a model of the Bf 109G fighter in 1:48 scale. It is the open version for aircraft fitted with the MW-50 or GM-1 power-boost system, where an additional tank and the related plumbing sat behind the cockpit. It is not an airplane kit but a detail accessory replacing the simplified plastic part from the base kit. This version is one of three bulkhead variants the manufacturer makes and it differs from the closed version and from the standard open one.

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 109G was a German single-seat fighter of the Second World War. The MW-50 system was a water-methanol injection and the GM-1 system a nitrous oxide injection; both temporarily raised the power of the engine and needed an additional tank placed behind the cockpit. The space and the cockpit rear bulkhead of aircraft equipped in this way look correspondingly different.

Building and painting tips

First wash the mold release residue off the resin part, carefully cut off the casting block and sand the surface with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). We recommend painting and weathering the bulkhead and the visible plumbing before the fuselage is closed up; the busy features come alive once the edges are picked out.
