1:48 Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress US national insignia w/ blue outline from Eduard sprays the later US insignia with a blue surround onto the model instead of using decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
Eduard masking stencils for spraying the US national insignia in the version with side bars and a blue surround, meant for a 1:48 model of the Boeing B-17F. This is the later marking standard: a star in a circle with bars at the sides and a dark blue surround, which replaced the red surround used only briefly. With the stencils you spray the insignia straight onto the camouflage, so it follows the surface of the fuselage and the wings exactly, panels and rivets included. Sister sets cover the early round insignia and the insignia with a red surround, so matching the markings to a particular machine is easy.
Over its service life the four-engined Flying Fortress in its F version carried progressively updated markings that reflected the hectic development of US regulations in 1943. Machines with blue-surrounded insignia belong to the period when daylight raids on German industry were at their peak and hundreds of bombers operated over Europe at once. For a modeler this form is rewarding also because it appeared both on olive drab machines and on later aircraft in bare natural metal.
Spray the insignia in thin coats and let each color dry properly. On natural metal a gloss base is worth the effort, because the paint then creeps less under the edges and the insignia gets a perfectly sharp outline.
