About product

Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI, a 1:48 model, made by Tamiya

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British twin-engine Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI heavy fighter in 1:48 scale from Tamiya. The kit is famous for the typical Tamiya accuracy, as the parts seat nicely and the build goes smoothly. The model can be built in two forms: as the classic Mk.VI fighter or in the Coastal Command version. It faithfully reproduces the short nose, the thick wings and the dihedral tailplane, and the engines and the cockpit are well worked out. Two crew figures and several marking options are in the package.

The real subject

The Beaufighter was a versatile combat aircraft of the Royal Air Force. Thanks to its roomy nose, heavy armament and two engines it proved itself as a radar-equipped night fighter as well as an attack machine of Coastal Command that struck at enemy shipping. It was robust, well armored and feared for its firepower; it was deployed on a number of battlefronts of the Second World War, from the defense of Britain to the Mediterranean and the Far East.

Building and painting tips

Paint and assemble the cockpit interior and the inside of the engine nacelles before you close the fuselage and the cowlings up. Mask the canopy glazing, as ready-made masks or patient masking with tape pay off on the framed British glazing. Decide whether you are building the night fighter or the Coastal Command version, because the camouflage and the markings differ; choose the scheme accordingly. Apply the decals over a smooth gloss coat and finish the model with a matte coat matching the period camouflage.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of British aviation subjects of the Second World War
  • For modelers who like twin-engine machines
  • For builders who will appreciate the choice between the night fighter and the Coastal Command version
  • For beginners and advanced modelers alike, thanks to the accommodating Tamiya build

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

Yes. It is an injection-molded Tamiya kit with well-seating parts, so it is manageable for the moderately advanced too. The more demanding part is mainly masking the framed canopy glazing.
