The diorama accessory 1:48 British Ammunition Crate (P59) from Firma49 represents a British ammunition crate for scenes and for loading vehicles.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item belongs among the small furnishings of a scene. It is not a model of a vehicle or an aircraft but a standalone crate that a modeler places around a vehicle bed, beside a gun or on the ground among figures. The designation of the crate type given in the title is P59 and the scale is 1:48.
The British Army marked its ammunition packaging with its own system of codes, and so in period photographs the shape and the lettering of a crate often reveal which round was carried in it. Crates were stored at supply points, carried on trucks and, at a gun position, piled into stacks that to this day give the best guide to scale and composition on a diorama. Empty ground around a vehicle looks lifeless, whereas a few crates placed with feeling tell a story about supply.
Lay the composition out dry first, without glue, and only then stick it down. Build the stacks slightly irregular; a perfectly squared-off pile looks artificial. Wood is imitated by drawing thin oil lines in the direction of the grain over a light base and letting the lower coat show through. Darken the metal handles and straps separately. Touch the lower edges with pigment matching the ground the scene stands on, so that the crate really belongs to the terrain.
This is a standalone scene accessory. The figures, the equipment and the paints are not included in the package.
