This is a detail resin set of the two-seat pilot's compartment, not an airplane model. The set replaces the cockpit from a plastic kit with a more faithful resin form with the instrument panels of both the front and the rear station, side consoles and frames. The FGR.2 designation matches one of the British Phantom versions and differs in detail from the FGR.1 version, which Aires offers separately. The set is intended for more experienced modelers; to seat it, the inner fuselage walls of the kit usually have to be adapted. It is made by Aires.
The British Phantoms grew out of the American McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II and received Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines. The FGR.2 version served with the Royal Air Force as a two-seat supersonic machine in the fighter, fighter-bomber and reconnaissance roles. The tandem crew layout is reflected in the pair of separate pilot's compartments in this set.
Wash the mold release agent off the parts, cut them from the casting blocks and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Protect your airways when sanding resin and ventilate the space. The cockpit is painted before the fuselage is closed; the instrument panels and consoles are set off by a gentle wash and a dry brush on the raised features.
