C-45 exhaust 1:48 (Aires/Quickboost)

This set from the aircraft aftermarket manufacturer Aires/Quickboost is a resin replacement for the exhaust parts of a model of the twin-engine C-45 in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane kit but a detail accessory that replaces the plastic exhausts from the base kit with more finely cast parts, usually with suggested hollow outlets. Faithful exhausts on the engine nacelles raise the realistic impression of the front of the aircraft.

The real subject

The Beechcraft C-45 (derived from the Model 18) was an American twin-engine light transport and liaison aircraft, also widely used for training. The exhausts emerging from the nacelles of its air-cooled radial engines are among the clearly visible details on a model.

Building and painting tips

First wash the mold release residue off the resin parts, carefully cut off the casting blocks and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). We recommend painting the exhausts in burnt metal shades and picking them out with rust and soot; the hollow outlets come alive once the inside is darkened.
