The US Air Force keeps special squadrons whose task is to play the opponent in training. The machines of the 65th squadron therefore wear an unusual multicolor camouflage that imitates the patterns of foreign aircraft and in training combat makes it harder to judge their position and attitude. Under this finish hides the F-35, that is a fifth generation combat aircraft with a smoothly fitted surface and internal weapons bays. The combination of a modern airframe and a colorful camouflage makes the subject a rewarding one for a display cabinet.
The masks cover the individual fields of the camouflage pattern, so you do not have to trace them laboriously and assemble them from tape. The cut derives from the shapes of the F-35 kits in 1:48 scale from the Meng brand. The masks are applied to a finished airframe, so allow for them only at the moment when the seams are filled and the surface is sanded. How many masks the sheet contains and in what order the individual shades are applied are described in the manufacturer's instructions.
First lay the lightest shade over the whole airframe and let it cure. Then stick the masks on for the darker fields, press the edges down properly and spray the paint in thin coats perpendicular to the edge, so that it does not run under the mask. Take the masks off while the finish is fresh. The finished scheme is evened out only by a final varnish, which levels the difference in gloss between the fields.
The set suits modelers who want to spray a broken-up camouflage precisely and without masking by hand. The package contains the masks; the paints, the glue and the kit are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
