Eduard photo-etched landing flaps for the Dornier Do 217K-1 bomber in 1:48. The metal set makes it possible to show the flaps extended together with their inner structure.
Responsibility details are not available.
This photo-etched set from the Czech maker Eduard replaces the molded landing flaps of the Dornier Do 217K-1 bomber with a fine metal part. The etch captures the rib framework of the flap and the exposed inside, so the surface can be lowered into the extended position on a finished model. In the package there is an unpainted sheet and an illustrated instruction leaflet.
The K version came about by reworking the proven medium bomber into a machine with BMW radial engines and with a smoothly rounded fully glazed nose without a separate step for the pilot. It entered service in 1942 and was used by formations operating over the Mediterranean and over the British Isles. A roomy bomb bay made it a carrier on which guided weapons were later tested as well.
The flaps are broken out of the fret with a sharp scalpel and bent in a bending tool or between two blades. The metal has to be degreased with alcohol before gluing and fixed with cyanoacrylate glue. The ribbing stands out after a primer is sprayed on and after the seams are slightly darkened. The original plastic surfaces are cut out of the wing, so plan the cuts in advance and try them dry.
The set serves to finish off a plastic kit, which has to be obtained separately. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
