According to the name, this set from the Czech maker CMK contains two figures of the one-humped camel, that is, the dromedary. It is not a kit of an aircraft or a vehicle but an accessory intended to bring dioramas and display cases in 1:48 scale to life. It is exactly such small things that give a scene its scale and atmosphere, because a model of an aircraft in the desert looks quite different once an animal or a figure is added beside it.
The dromedary is the one-humped camel, at home in North Africa and the Middle East. It can be told at first glance from the Bactrian camel, which has two humps. It is an animal adapted to a dry and hot climate and for centuries it served as a means of transport and of carrying loads. In modeling it suits everywhere a scene is meant to evoke a desert or Middle Eastern setting, from the battlefields of North Africa through colonial subjects to civil scenes. In 1:48 scale it belongs among the popular accessories for aircraft dioramas.
Wash the parts carefully first in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry, so that the paint holds well. Cut the remains from casting off with a sharp knife or a fine saw; do not snap them off. Sand wet rather than dry. Use super glue to join the small parts. Lay down a thin base coat before painting. Build the coat of the dromedary on a sand or light brown shade, work a dark wash into the recesses and bring out the raised areas with a dry brush. Finish the eyes, the nostrils and the feet with a thin brush and unify the whole model with a matte varnish.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
