A detailed resin set of external fuel tanks for the American Lockheed F-104 Starfighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an aftermarket accessory from the Quickboost brand. The castings offer a faithful shape and a smooth surface for the tanks, which anyone building a Starfighter in the full ferry configuration will appreciate.
The F-104 Starfighter was a single-seat supersonic fighter with a strikingly thin, short wing, recognizable by a slender fuselage built literally around a powerful engine. It served with the US Air Force and with a number of allies. External tanks on the wingtips and under the fuselage markedly extended the range, which on this type was otherwise limited.
Wash the parts free of mold release agent residue and cut them off the casting blocks with a saw or a knife. Sand and clean up any joint between the halves of the tanks. Glue them with cyanoacrylate. Smooth tanks reward gloss metallic finishes, so paint them last. Protect your airways while sanding and apply a primer before painting.
The accessory does not hold the model itself, glue or paints. It is supplied as a resin casting to finish an existing kit with.
