A resin replacement for the exhaust nozzle of the Starfighter aircraft in the F-104G and TF-104G versions in 1:48 scale from the Aires brand. It is not a model of an aircraft or a kit — it is a part for a plastic kit you already own. The Starfighter is single-engine, so the set deals with a single, but exceptionally exposed nozzle at the end of a slender fuselage.
On a single-engine aircraft with a long cylindrical fuselage the rear end is visually dominant, and the plastic nozzle tends to be its weakest point: a thick rim wall, a simplified or entirely missing interior and often a visible parting line as well. A resin casting will offer a thin wall, a more faithful shape of the exit section and detail inside, where there is a good view on this type. The set is laid out for both the stated versions, that is the single-seat one and the two-seat trainer.
Wash the part in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the mold release agent is removed from the surface. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc; never break it off, as resin cracks. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. The opening in the rear of the fuselage usually needs widening slightly; try it dry until the nozzle seats without pressure, otherwise a gap will appear during gluing. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Darken and shade the inside of the nozzle before you build it in. Build metallic and burnt shades with thin sprays in layers over a dark base — a heavy one-off spray will lose the depth of the detail. Fit the nozzle as late as possible, ideally only after the whole model has been clear coated.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, please check that the set matches your kit.
