F-111 engine is a resin detail set of the engine in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Black Dog. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory for displaying the power unit.
Responsibility details are not available.
It is not a model of an airplane but a resin detail accessory to an F-111 kit in 1:48 scale that has already been bought. The set captures the power unit and is intended for modelers who want to display the engine pulled out of the airframe, for instance on a transport trolley beside the aircraft, or to show it in a partly opened fuselage. It is precisely a solution like that which gives a display case a storyline, because it offers the viewer an assembly that is otherwise permanently hidden.
The F-111 is a twin-engine combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing and its power units are turbofan engines with afterburning. Such an engine is in itself a complicated technical object with a multitude of external units, piping and lines; in injection-molded plastic it can be captured only in a simplified way, because a mold does not allow undercuts. A resin casting does not have this limit, so the result is markedly more three-dimensional. The set therefore does not serve to make the aircraft fly better but to give the model a further display element of its own.
Wash the parts with lukewarm water and detergent to remove the release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface with a file; never break them off. Sanding resin is best done wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the engine before the final assembly: start with a dark base, then apply metallic shades, because a combination of several metal tones gives the surface depth. The combustion and exhaust section takes blue-violet and brownish hints of heat discoloration; apply them thinned and in layers. Bring out the details of the piping and the wiring with a fine brush and even the whole thing out with a thinned dark wash. If you display the engine away from the aircraft, reckon with a base or a trolley, whose presence in the package is stated on the box.
The set is an accessory to a kit already bought and is supplied unpainted. The kit, cyanoacrylate glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
