The set replaces the engine exhaust nozzles on F-14B and F-14D Tomcat models in 1:48 scale. The nozzles are rendered in the closed position, that is drawn in, as they are seen on a parked aircraft. On a finished model this is a clearly visible place: the tail faces the viewer every time anyone walks around the model, and closed nozzles give the tail a shape that is hard to achieve with coarser parts.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American carrier-based fighter with a variable-geometry wing and a crew of two. The B and D versions received different engines from the original A version, and with that the shape of the tail changed as well. The set is therefore aimed at these two versions; it does not suit a model of the A version.
For modelers who are building the later versions of the Tomcat and want the tail to look like that of a parked machine. The fitting is undemanding; the main work lies in the painting and in making both nozzles look the same.
Paints, glue and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
