1:48 F-15i Ra’am Camouflage Paint Masks And IAF Star Stencils Set

The real subject

The F-15I Raam is a two-seat multirole combat aircraft of the Israeli Air Force, derived from the strike version of the F-15. The crew consists of a pilot and a weapon systems operator; the machine is built for attacks on ground targets at long range while keeping the capabilities of a fighter. Unlike the gray-finished American machines, the Israeli examples wear a multicolor camouflage, which on a model is the most conspicuous and at the same time the most laborious part of the build.

What the set contains

The set contains stencils for spraying the camouflage pattern and stencils for the Israeli national insignia in the form of a star, both in 1:48 scale. A sprayed insignia has the advantage over a decal that no carrier film is left on the surface, so the insignia has no glossy edge of the kind that sometimes appears with decals on a matte finish. The set does not prescribe the particular shades of the finish; choose the paints according to the references for the machine you are building.

Building and painting tips

Work from the lightest shade to the darker ones. First spray the whole area in the base color, let it dry and only then stick the stencils on and spray the next shade. Press the edges of the stencils down so that paint cannot run underneath, and apply thin coats. Take the stencils off as soon as the paint has set. Spray the insignia onto a finished coat, ideally over a thin layer of gloss varnish, which prevents bleeding.

Who it is for

For builders of contemporary combat aircraft in 1:48 scale who want their camouflage and markings sprayed rather than stuck on. The model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
