A decal sheet in 1:48 scale for a model of the F-16A fighter. The markings belong to a particular machine carrying the individual code FA-50. This is not a kit but an accessory for one.

The real subject

The F-16 is a single-seat fighter that became one of the most widespread combat types of its time and serves with dozens of air forces. The A version is the original single-seat form of the first series. The identifying mark of the type is the bubble canopy without a forward frame, thanks to which the pilot has a view in practically every direction, then the markedly reclined seat and the control by a side stick instead of a conventional center one. The air intake is placed under the fuselage and the transition of the wing into the fuselage is smooth, so the silhouette reads as very compact.

How the sheet is applied

• It is a classic waterslide decal: cut the element out, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until it starts to release from the paper.
• The base has to be smooth and glossy, otherwise a silvery haze will appear under the film.
• Slide the decal into place with a soft brush and blot the excess water with a cloth.
• On panel lines and over rounded transitions a decal softener helps the film to pull onto the surface.
• Finally clear-coat everything, so that the edges of the carrier film disappear.
