Pre-cut painting masks for a model of the F-16C in 1:48 scale. The set covers the clear canopy while spraying, so the frame and the transition to the fuselage come out with a crisp edge. It is neither a kit nor a finished model but an accessory for painting. The double-sided form means that the sheet contains masks for the outer and the inner side of the glazing, which is useful on a bubble canopy with no windshield frame, transparent for most of its area, because every inaccuracy shows from both sides. The set is cut for the parts of the Tamiya kit; on a model from another manufacturer the shapes need not match.
Degrease the clear part and let it dry; on a large glazed area take care that no fingerprints stay on it. Lift the mask out of the sheet with a scalpel, lay it on and press it down with a toothpick all around. Where a mask overhangs the edge of the part, trim it to the outline with a new blade. Spray thin coats with short pauses so that the paint does not run under the edge. Remove the mask as soon as it is dry to the touch and pull it off at an angle. With a double-sided set, spray the inner side of the frame in the interior shade first.
The F-16C Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multirole combat aircraft. Its distinctive feature is the bubble canopy with no windshield frame, which gives the pilot all-round vision. On a model that means a large continuous transparent area where careful masking pays off: every edge the paint has crept under is conspicuous on the smooth canopy.
The mask is an accessory, not a kit. The model, paints, glue and thinners are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
