A resin Advanced Crew Station rear cockpit detail for the F/A-18F model in 1:48 scale from Metallic Details. An accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
This detail set from Metallic Details replaces the rear station of the two-seat Super Hornet with a more accurate resin casting in 1:48 scale. It is an aftermarket accessory for a plastic kit, so the aircraft model is not included in the package. The casting is designed as a drop-in assembly, which saves putting together a long row of tiny parts.
The Advanced Crew Station is the updated rear station of the two-seat version of the Super Hornet. Classic analog instruments give way to large-area displays and control panels for working the sensors and the armament, so the rear crew member works above all as a systems operator. This is exactly the part of the interior that tends to be simplified in injection-molded plastic, and it is clearly visible once the canopy is glazed.
Wash the casting first in warm soapy water because of the remains of the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the mating face by wet sanding; wear respiratory protection while sanding. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The interior is painted before the fuselage is closed: the base shade with an airbrush, then a dark wash into the recesses, a dry brush on the edges of the panels and the small details with a brush. Always try the cockpit dry, because resin inserts often call for slight adjustment of the mating faces inside the fuselage.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
