The F-35A Lightning II carries the main part of its armament inside the fuselage, in two bays along the sides. That is exactly why the machine is so clean on the outside: nothing hangs under the wing and the silhouette stays smooth. Open bays are among the most interesting things you can show on a model, because inside they are full of racks, struts and equipment that stays hidden for the whole flight otherwise.
The set targets the internal weapons bays of the model in 1:48 scale and comes into its own when you want to build the model with the doors open. The range of parts and where they go is given in the manufacturer's instructions; check there as well which kit they are shaped for. The parts are not polystyrene, so they do not react to cement for plastic kits.
The inside of the bay is built and painted before the surrounding parts close it up, so lay out the order of the steps in advance. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand off the rest. Wash and degrease before painting. Prop the doors up after gluing until the glue sets, so that they stay at the same angle on both sides of the fuselage. Hold small parts with tweezers while sanding and always dry-fit them while everything can still be moved.
For modelers who want to display the model with the bays open and enjoy the fine work inside. On a closed model the set has no use. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
