1:48 F-35A Lightning II EXPERT kabuki masks

F-35A Lightning II EXPERT mask set 1:48 (New Ware)

An extensive mask set of fine kabuki tape for a model of the F-35A Lightning II fighter in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer New Ware. It is not a kit but an accessory for the model. In the EXPERT version the set usually covers the canopy including the frames and the inner face, the remaining clear parts, the wheels, the stores and camouflage elements. It is meant for the corresponding plastic F-35A models in this scale.

The real subject

The Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II is a single-seat fifth-generation multirole fighter with a reduced radar signature. The A version is designed for conventional takeoff and landing and a number of air forces operate it. Its faceted surfaces and the division of the skin into panels of radar-absorbing materials are characteristic.

Use and tips

• Kabuki tape shapes well around curves and leaves no adhesive behind when lifted off.
• Apply the masks onto a degreased and smooth coat of paint and press the edges down carefully.
• Spray thin coats and lift the masks off while the paint is fresh, for sharp edges.
• Thanks to the inner masks you can achieve realistic canopy glazing as well.

Who the set is for

• Modelers who want to mask the whole model from a single package.
• Builders of modern fighters in 1:48 scale.
• Advanced modelers who also deal with the stores and the camouflage detail.

The mask set is an accessory for the model. The model itself, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
